Camping Etiquette for Pack 696

Parents as you attend camping events with your scout, please beware of some camping rules and to always use proper camping etiquette.

There are really only a few rules, the rest is proper etiquette.

• NO drugs, alcohol, firearms, fireworks, smoking or foul language.

  • If you must smoke, please do not do it around the scouts / other campers. This means leave the immediate area. (BSA has now banned eCigs on scouting events)

• No open-toe shoes, sandals, or flip-flops. Only closed-toe shoes, closed toed beach shoes or closed toed sandals are permitted.

• Only Boy Scouts with a "Whittling Chip" are permitted to carry a knife (pocket knife). No sheath knives. Cub Scout may not carry a knife at all even with a Whittling Chip. The Whittling Chip only allows the use of a pocket knife with adult supervision.

• All youth and adults should use the Buddy System when traveling through the camp at all times.

• WEBELOS Scouts when venturing into near by wooded areas should ALWAYS let your adult partner or leader know where you are headed and which buddy will be with you.

• Remember the Leave No Trace Rules: Stick to the path, do not trample / damage plants, do not break branches from trees etc. If you are not familiar with these rules then you need to learn them before you go camping.

• No electronics permitted on pack camp outs / events. A scout may use them in their car on the ride up and home, but once you reach the scouting event, the electronic device needs to stay in the vehicle NOT THE TENT, backpack or anywhere it is accessible for a scout to play with. They are there to learn and explore.

  • NOTE: Parents and Leaders may use phones for emergency use / camp organizational purposes only.

• NO OUTSIDE GUESTS AREA ALLOWED IN CAMP UNLESS APPROVED BY THE COMMITTEE CHAIR AND CUBMASTER

• NO FAMILY PETS ARE ALLOWED AT CAMP. THIS INCLUDES THERAPY OR COMFORT ANIMALS.

• NO FOOD ARE ALLOWED IN YOUR TENT. This will help you keep bugs and critters out of your campsite.

** Parents / Leaders please practice what we preach to the scouts.

The following are just items that are proper camping etiquette. They are in no certain order.

• Your son will be involved in an overall program. Each day is important to the development of the program. He will need to be there the entire time. Please don’t plan on late arrivals, leaves in between, or early departures. If these are unavoidable due to emergencies, then let one of the BALOO leaders know before leaving.

• Do not allow scouts to run through other camp sites, regardless if it is at a BSA campground or a public site.

• Do not allow scouts to leave the immediate camp site area unless with their parent/guardian or with a buddy (with parent's consent).

• Parents & Scouts are to help clean up camp site before leaving. Pick up more than you bring. Remember "Leave No Trace".

Note: There will always be (2) BALOO Trained leaders on all camping events. For Pack events Tiger, Wolves need to have a parent present at all times. Bears and Webelos may camp together with parents permission, but are not allow to sleep in another adults tents. The boys can camp together in a separate tent. Wolves, Bears and Webelos may attend a Scout summer camp program with two trained adult leaders.
