Becoming a Trained Leader

Parents are the lifeblood of any Cub Scout Pack. We depend on our parents to step up and help on numerous levels. Without their help, our program would be limited and our Scouts would be missing out on the fun.

It is very easy to become a Trained Leader in Boy Scouts. ALL the required training can be taken online - so you can take the courses at your own pace.

Steps Toward Leadership

All leader positions and pack committee positions are volunteer positions. The volunteers are parents just like you. With out parents / volunteers like you, the pack would not exist. Every years leaders and pack committee volunteers come and go. It is an ever changing cycle. We are always looking for parents who are more than willing to give a little extra. Click the links below to see what each position encompasses. If interested in any open positions please contact Committee Chair Gary Payne

Needed - Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) Training

It is the Cub Scout leader training required for any Cub Scout den or pack outdoor event, including pack camping overnighters and Webelos den overnighters.

BALOO training is comprised of two components—an online component and a practical, hands-on component. Both components must be completed to qualify as a “TRAINED” Cub Scout outdoor leader. The online component must be completed prior to the practical component. The online training contains introductory and basic information that will be built upon during the practical training.

At least one adult on every pack overnighter must have BALOO certification (except at District and Council events). Camp Rangers cannot allow a Pack to camp without a BALOO certified leader onsite.

Needed - Wood Badge

Wood Badge is the premier adult leadership development course for the Boy Scouts of America. Wood Badge teaches contemporary leadership and team-building skills in a comfortable outdoor setting, where learners become members of their own Troop. Wood Badge’s effectiveness as an effective leadership development experience has been applauded by industry training professionals. Its positive influence on graduates’ individual unit-level program is unparalleled.

Wood Badge is, first and foremost, learning by doing. Participants in the course are formed first into a Pack, bridge over into a Troop, and finally are inducted into a Venturing Crew, just as Scouts move up through the Scouting program. The courses are open to all adult Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity, and Venturing leaders and district and council volunteers that have completed Basic Training for their position and are capable of handling the hectic, physically demanding course schedule.

Nationally famous training professionals and volunteers updated the Wood Badge syllabus to provide the best methods to adult Scouters for teaching leadership and delivering program to their youth.
